Guest Lecture at Hubei Institute of Fine Arts (HIFA), Wuhan, China
I was invited for a second time to give a guest lecture at HIFA in Wuhan. This lecture focused on my teaching at the Royal College of Art, with particular emphasis on White Noise, the elective course I developed and led.
I introduced the teaching framework that formed the basis of the elective: Record – Playback – Feedback. During the Record phase, students experimented with different research methods, exploring what research could be through a range of approaches. In the Playback phase, they transformed their research into experiences, using making and presentation as ways of sharing ideas. The Feedback phase centred on discussion and critique, allowing students to reflect on their work before returning to a new cycle of recording. This iterative process encouraged continuous experimentation and development throughout the course.
