Solar Powered Synths (Workshop for Canva)
I was commissioned by Canva to design and facilitate a hands-on workshop as part of their away day. The session introduced participants to DIY synthesizer electronics, guiding them through the process of soldering and building their own synthesizer. I used the designs from CrucFX, which were originally designed by Peter Blasser of Ciat-Lonbarde. I had the PCBs manufactured in China and designed a custom enclosure for the synth, speaker, and solar panel myself.
Together, we explored the fundamentals of sound synthesis and learned about the different electronic components and how they interact to generate sound. No prior experience was required, making the workshop accessible and enjoyable for everyone. By the end of the session, each participant had built and taken home their own solar-powered mini synth.
